Breakdown of Mobile OS Market Share Released by Gartner
February 24, 2010 by BlackberryGuru
Today Gartner has come out with the Mobile OS market share numbers and as you can see RIM is doing pretty well in this little battle. RIM has gained 3.3 points bringing them to 19.9 market shares; this puts RIM in second place. Symbian is in first place but I don’t really count Symbian as a smartphone OS considering that it can’t do as much as other smartphones can do.
If you look at the other smartphones you see that Apple is right behind RIM. This is always good for RIM! Apple sold 10M fewer units that BlackBerry does but again BlackBerry has more devices than Apple does. I am very curious to see what the future has in store. Considering that there is the so called “data crunch” coming up carries are going to be looking for smartphones with an OS that doesn’t use up a lot of data. RIM is doing great with not using as much data as the other smartphones such as the I-phone and Andriod. Check out the graph below that shows how much data the different smartphone web browsers use.
Just by looking at that little graph you can see that RIM’s web browser uses clearly a lot less than Apples, Win mobiles, and andriod’s. On Monday, Apple stated that they are going to stick with AT&T as their main carrier. We know that Apple is pushing the I-phone a lot but if it keeps using as much data as it does, AT&T might start pushing the Blackberry devices more so they can lower the stress on the network. Only time will tell I guess!

Under the default settings you have 20 moves in order to clear the screen.
BlackBerry Presenter Review
February 11, 2010 by BlackberryGuru
A few months ago during CES RIM introduced everyone to their new accessory for your BlackBerry, the BlackBerry Presenter. When a lot of people heard about this accessory some were confused on what it did, and some were confused on why they actually needed this device.
I was very excited when my friends at RIM sent me this little device. I was one of those type of people who asked why do we need this device and I wanted to figure out the answer to that question. I know BlackBerries are very business friendly but if you look around today more and more consumers are using a BlackBerry as their phone. RIM notices this and is really making a strive towards giving those consumers. My question before I received this device was is this going to be a accessory for the business users, consumer users, or both.
When I first open the box to the BlackBerry Presenter i was amazed at how small the device actually was. When I travel with accessories I rather them be as small as possible because I tend to pack heavy with my electronic devices for some strange reason. (Must be the geek inside of me) The BlackBerry Presenter fit very well in just my one hand. Inside the box were different wall adapters just like RIM includes with its new line of BlackBerry devices. Also inside the box was a little pouch for the BlackBerry Presenter to store in when you travel with it.
Now when you look at the BlackBerry Presenter you will notice the Black top and the chrome housing to the device, just like the new BlackBerry devices that have been coming out recently. You will also notice the BlackBerry logo on the top that is also the power button and is surrounded by the LED indicator light.
On the back of the Presenter you notice the VGA port, S-video port, NTSC/PAL switch, and the micro usb port that is used to power and sync the device. Setting up the BlackBerry Presenter with a projector is very easy to do you just find the right cables to plug the Presenter and the projector together.
There is an application that you must install on your device to use your BlackBerry with your BlackBerry Presenter but we all know how to install an application. The application is easy to use and is very responsive. There is also a desktop manager program for your PC just like there is for your BlackBerry. Why is there a desktop manager for your BlackBerry Presenter you might ask? Well to keep your Presenter up to date with different software.
When connect to a projector I found that it worked pretty well. The LED indicator light helps you know whether your Presenter is working properly or not. The three LED light colors are red, blue, and purple. This is kind of odd because RIM likes to say close to the BlackBerry LED lights which are red, green, and blue. The presenter displays only what is on your powerpoint so if you have to exit out of the powerpoint on your device without doing so on the projector. You can even view slide notes without letting your audience see!
Overall this BlackBerry Presenter is a really great device for showing powerpoint presentations. I do wish it could show things like movies and pictures but one step at a time right?
Now to answer the question about who this device is meant to be for I think it’s a toss up actually. Me being a student I can see myself and other students using this to show a presentation for one of my classes. I can also see a business person using this device to show a presentation for a business meeting. This is a really great device and I highly recommend it for people. The BlackBerry Presenter is not yet ready to be shipped out but you can still pre order the device for 199.99.

The Bold – New Model, New OS, Same Great Blackberry
May 14, 2009 by BlackberryGuru

AT&T is the proud exclusive carrier of what I think is probably the best Blackberry model ever, the Blackberry Bold. It is a new model, with a new OS, and features the same great Blackberry features you have come to know and love. Though it is exclusive to AT&T, it is possible to get an unlocked version and use it through other wireless providers.
The Bold just looks really sexy in my opinion. It’s one of those phones that you see someone carrying, and you’re like, “That guy is somebody important.” You know what I mean?
The Bold model also features a built in GPS system, which is good for keeping you on the road and not lost.
The best thing about the Bold in my opinion is that it just flat out freshens up the Blackberry system. The operating system looks different with this model, and actually to me looks quite a bit more sophisticated. I am a big fan of this model.
If you like your current Blackberry, you’ll definitely be happy with a Bold model. It would just look good on you first of all, along with the fact that is has the GPS feature, as well as a spiced up OS, it’s the way to go in my opinion.
You are also able to put your iTunes music collection on the Blackberry Bold, so I mean, really, what else do you need? It’s just a really great phone that has a lot of really useful, and fun features. This will be the next phone that I get, and since I wont need my iPod anymore, I’ll be selling that, and will actually end up saving money in the long run.
