FourSquare for BlackBerry Gets Updated 1.5
February 27, 2010 by BlackberryGuru

I have to tell you guys I really do love the game Foursquare that has become a hit for the BlackBerry. If you haven’t played it you are defiantly missing out. If you don’t know what the game is about, all you really do is check-in at the different places you go throughout your day. Seams kind of boring but you get badges and rewords for checking-in. Also if you check in enough time you become a mayor of that place.
Today it seems that Foursquare has become updated to version 1.5. Seems you can now request friend. However there is one update that is needed and that is a Storm version. The version now still is good with the Storm devices. I also think they need to update their GPS location system or their database because there are some places I go and foursqure doesn’t know where I am. Other than that it is still a great game and very addicting.
Rogers Launching New Data Plan to Make Customers Happy

If you are a Rogers user but you are always traveling outside of Canada, you have been hit with some pretty bad roaming charges. Rogers has been known for not having the greatest or cheapest data plan. Apparently they are some what listening to their customers cause they have made a “one rate” roaming plan, here is the breakdown:
- $20 Personal Email on BB CDN/US
- $35 Consumer/Small business BB (BIS) 500MB CDN/US Plan
- $35 Consumer/Small business 500MB CDN & US Data Plan
- $40 Consumer/Small business BB (BIS) 1GB CDN & US Plan
- $40 Consumer/Small business 1GB CDN & US Data Plan
- $45 500MB CDN & US Mobile Internet Flex Rate Plan
- $50 DAP (for MSD customers) 1.5GB CDN & US Data Plan
- $55 Corporate BB (BES) 1GB CDN & US Plan
- $55 Corporate BB (BES) 500 MB CDN & US Flex Rate Plan
Seems a pretty good deal for an additional 10/month you can roam outside of Canada. Right now it is making me feel good to be a Verizon customer and having not to deal with roaming charges.

BlackBerry Bold Tops New Radiation Ranking
February 25, 2010 by BlackberryGuru

Cell phone tradition has been a serious issue. In eWeek, it discussed a study done by the Environmental Working
Group which stated that the Blackberry Bold 9700 has the highest radiation level for cellphone sreleased in 2010.
The Blackberry Bold 9700 has a SAR of 1.55 W/kg. Researches haven’t decided if this radiation is truly bad for you
. The radiation level is still withing the federal guideline and rules. FCC standards limit the radiation
absorbed by the cell phone user’s brain and body to certain SAR, which is measured by the amount of the phone’s
radiation energy absorbed per kilogram of tissue. The Environmental Working Group says that more research is need
on this much controversial topic.

Breakdown of Mobile OS Market Share Released by Gartner
February 24, 2010 by BlackberryGuru
Today Gartner has come out with the Mobile OS market share numbers and as you can see RIM is doing pretty well in this little battle. RIM has gained 3.3 points bringing them to 19.9 market shares; this puts RIM in second place. Symbian is in first place but I don’t really count Symbian as a smartphone OS considering that it can’t do as much as other smartphones can do.
If you look at the other smartphones you see that Apple is right behind RIM. This is always good for RIM! Apple sold 10M fewer units that BlackBerry does but again BlackBerry has more devices than Apple does. I am very curious to see what the future has in store. Considering that there is the so called “data crunch” coming up carries are going to be looking for smartphones with an OS that doesn’t use up a lot of data. RIM is doing great with not using as much data as the other smartphones such as the I-phone and Andriod. Check out the graph below that shows how much data the different smartphone web browsers use.
Just by looking at that little graph you can see that RIM’s web browser uses clearly a lot less than Apples, Win mobiles, and andriod’s. On Monday, Apple stated that they are going to stick with AT&T as their main carrier. We know that Apple is pushing the I-phone a lot but if it keeps using as much data as it does, AT&T might start pushing the Blackberry devices more so they can lower the stress on the network. Only time will tell I guess!
